Keyboard and hotkeys

Table of content

AnyDesk offers keyboard layout translation for users working across different language zones. This ensures that you can type correctly even when the local and remote devices use different keyboard layouts.

Keyboard translation modes

AnyDesk typically selects the most suitable keyboard mode automatically. However, in some cases, you may need to choose the appropriate mode manually.

Remote mode

In Remote mode, key inputs are mapped based on the physical key position. For example, pressing Q on a QWERTY keyboard will send A to an AZERTY keyboard.

💡 NOTE

Not recommended for office tasks. Use this mode only if the remote system uses custom key mappings, such as macro-based software.

Local mode

In Local mode, key inputs are interpreted as if the local keyboard layout is used on the remote device.

💡 NOTE

Some applications, such as video games, may not function correctly with this mode due to reliance on scan codes.

Automatic mode

When Auto is selected in the AnyDesk toolbar:

  • If the local and remote keyboard layouts are the same, AnyDesk uses Remote mode.
  • If the layouts differ, AnyDesk switches to Local mode.

💡 NOTE

If you experience issues with key input in specific applications, try switching the mode manually.

Keyboard shortcuts

When working across different platforms, shortcuts must match the remote system’s conventions. For example:

  • macOS: Use Cmd+C to copy.
  • Windows: Use Ctrl+V to paste.

For more details, see Cross-platform shortcuts.
